Pros and Cons of Using Pros and Cons of Using BulkSupplements.com
Bulk Supplements

Summary

Given their high level of quality control and affordable pricing, BulkSupplements.com is a retailer worth purchasing from, especially if you’re on a budget. And given the supplement-industry trend of obscuring active ingredient amounts with proprietary blends, their transparency when it comes to what’s in each package is commendable.

Plus, even if you’re completely new to supplements, the helpful “Search by health goal” function and the company’s customer service representatives can help get you started. Whether you want a small amount of an ingredient to add to your pre-workout or a kilogram or two of your favorite supplement, this is a reliable company to choose.

Pros

Massive selection

Great pricing

True bulk orders up to 100kg

Cons

Very few blends

BulkSupplements.com was started in 2011, and the company is based in Nevada. Its main manufacturing facility is FDA-registered, and it sells more than 400 unique products. Unlike many supplement manufacturers that only supply to individuals, BulkSupplements.com offers up to a metric ton of each supplement it sells.

This supplier is designed for anyone who wants to save money on quality supplements. Many products are sold in loose, non-capsule form, and they come on relatively plain-looking bags. Since many supplement companies spend a considerable amount on flashy packaging, the plain packaging used by BulkSupplements.com helps keep the total cost down.

What Products Do They Sell?

They have 400+ products

Since BulkSupplements.com sells over 400 individual products, it’s impossible to list every single one. However, their site divides their products into three main categories: sports and fitness, vitamins/minerals, and herbal supplements. And because new visitors might be overwhelmed by their inventory, the site offers a useful feature allowing shoppers to search by health goal.

Here, we’ll go over the categories of products they offer and what you can find in each. In the next section, we’ll dig more into the top-selling offerings.

Sports and Fitness Supplements

A small selection of their various protein powders

Many devotees of BulkSupplements.com are avid lifters and fitness enthusiasts. Because of this, BulkSupplements.com offers a large selection of whey protein. Buyers can choose concentrate or isolate, and there’s even a grass-fed option. And if you prefer vegan options, you can purchase soy protein, pea protein, or wheat protein as well. Each of these formulas is free of any additives.

The site also offers common components of pre- and post-workout formulations, including the following:

  • Creatine
  • L-Arginine
  • BCAAs
  • Beta alanine
  • L-Glutamine
  • Omega fatty acid formulas

One of the unique features of this purchasing model is that it allows you to custom-make your own pre- and post-workout blends. And since some manufacturers use proprietary blends (meaning you can’t see the amount of each ingredient), buying this way means you’ll know exactly how much of each ingredient you’re taking.

However, for those unfamiliar with the site, it’s worth noting that these supplements aren’t flavored like many pre- and post-workout supplements are. If you prefer a flavored drink, you can simply mix them in a blender bottle with some added water flavoring.

Vitamins and Minerals

Multivitamins contain a set amount of each ingredient. But for those who want a specialized blend, you can order individual vitamins in powder form. These are some of the offerings you’ll see:

  • B vitamins
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin D
  • Zinc (oxide and gluconate)
  • Magnesium (gluconate, glycinate, and carbonate),

One of the advantages of buying this way is that you can choose the exact form of certain minerals (like magnesium) that you’d like. Since different forms may be more easily absorbed than others, this lets you choose what’s right for you.

Herbal Supplements

The fitness community (and the community at large) has its share of devotees of Ayurveda and Chinese traditional medicine.

Luckily, these and other popular herbs are available in powder form. It’s worth noting that tribulus terrestris, tongkat ali, ashwagandha, and other components of highly-priced testosterone booster supplements can be bought here for significantly less.

Some of the items you can buy under “herbal supplements” can be used as food items too. You can purchase organic matcha green tea as well as stevia extract (which is a low-calorie sweetener with a low glycemic index).

What Are Some of Their Top Rated Products and Best Deals?

The standard bag

BulkSupplements.com is a company that sells just about every supplement imaginable. But somewhat predictably, their top sellers are largely fitness-enthusiast favorites. Here’s a look at their top-rated products:

1. Creatine Monohydrate (Micronized)

Creatine is probably one of the most popular fitness supplements available. The main way it works is by increasing your body’s ability to produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the molecule that provides cellular energy. Because you produce more ATP when regularly taking creatine, you’ll be able to perform more intense exercise for longer periods of time.

Additional research has also shown that creatine has specific muscle-building effects. It does this by stimulating the creation of proteins that build muscle fibers, as well as the release of insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1). Newer research also suggests that creatine acts as a nootropic, and animal studies have shown that it may be able to mitigate the effects of multiple neurologic disorders.

2. Whey Protein Powder Isolate (90%)

If you’re someone who’s looking for protein in a pure form, this is an excellent product choice. And since whey protein has been clinically shown to be a superior muscle-building protein, it’s no wonder that this is BulkSupplements.com’s top-selling protein powder.

If you’ve ever shopped for protein powder, you know that many of these formulations come with added sugars and carbohydrates. An advantage of this product is that it’s pure whey isolate–nothing more. Of course, you can always add flavors or additional supplements.

3. Beta-Alanine

Beta-alanine is a non-essential amino acid, but it’s been clinically shown to significantly improve athletic performance. The reason why is relatively simple: beta-alanine is a precursor to carnosine, the molecule that reduces muscle fatigue. Plus, it’s a vasodilator, meaning more oxygen will be delivered to muscle cells.

4. L-Citrulline DL-Malate 2:1 Pure Powder

This popular supplement has a mouthful of a name, but it’s really just a combination of two supplements that work well together. L-citrulline is an amino acid that supports the production of nitric oxide (NO), a molecule that dilates blood vessels. This improves oxygen delivery during exercise, which typically improves performance as well. In this mixture, it’s combined with malic acid, which supports energy production in the body. While you can buy each of these separately, the combination is one that works well together.

5. Ascorbic Acid/Vitamin C

Although many people obtain enough vitamin C through diet or a multivitamin, buying it this way is a smart choice if you intend to supplement in large doses (like if you’re suffering from a deficiency). Vitamin C has a wide range of health benefits–it is often taken to treat colds, and it has been shown to reduce certain kinds of inflammation.

How are Products Controlled for Quality?

Taken from their site

Since the FDA regulates supplements as food (and not as drugs), required supplement regulations don’t make sure a given supplement formula has enough of an active ingredient to be effective.

In order to show their customers that their products are real and without fillers, BulkSupplements.com has a few different quality control practices. First, their manufacturing and shipping facility is Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) certified by the FDA. In order to earn this certification, a supplement or drug manufacturing facility has to do a few things:

Every product has the complete ingredient list
  • Develop a maintain a rigorous quality management system
  • Look for and investigate any issues with product quality
  • Work with quality raw materials
  • Maintain a quality product testing laboratory

In addition to meeting the FDA’s rigorous standards for cGMP certification, BulkSupplements.com also tests each supplement for purity before shipping it to you. And in order to maintain complete transparency, you can obtain the certificate of analysis (COA) for the supplements you order (or for any of the products on the site) upon request. The COA shows the contents of what’s shipped to you, so you can rest assured that you’re getting a pure product with no fillers or additives.

How Does Their Pricing Compare to Other Supplement Retailers?

From 100g to 25kg!

BulkSupplements.com is significantly cheaper than most supplement manufacturers. In many cases, you can purchase six months to a year’s supply of a given supplement for around $20. Of course, this varies by product. But if you compare any BulkSupplements.com offering to one made by a more traditional supplement company, you’ll find that the BulkSupplements.com item is almost always cheaper.

If you’re interested in saving money per gram of supplement purchased, buying more is better–the price per gram gets lower as you buy larger quantities. And if you’re a representative of a larger company or supplement manufacturer, you have the option of setting up a wholesale account.

How is Their Customer Service?

Contact form

Many user reviews mention that BulkSupplements.com has a helpful customer service team. However, the company warns on their site that they often experience high call volumes, so you may need to wait before speaking to a representative. They suggest calling earlier in the day if possible. Their customer service lines are open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. PST.

Luckily, phone isn’t the only way to get in touch if you need to reach a customer service representative. You also can use a contact form by clicking on the site’s “support” button. The form allows you to explain your situation, leave your e-mail address, and attach up to five files.

How Fast and Expensive is Shipping?

BulkSupplements.com has same day shipping for almost all orders and most orders are processed in 24 to 48 hours. If you need an order quickly, you have an option for express shipping–you can order an overnight shipment for next-day delivery.

This company also offers international shipping. However, due in part to customs processing, international shipping takes considerably longer. BulkSupplements.com says that most international orders arrive within 7-21 business days, but that they make take up to six weeks if customs is especially slow.

In order to keep shipping simple, BulkSupplements.com has a flat-rate shipping fee of $6.95 per order. However, if you’re having your order shipped anywhere in the contiguous United States and order more than $49 at once, shipping is free.

Our Experience with Bulk

We decided to try out some of Bulk’s products ourselves so we ordered 4 of their most popular supplements. Here’s a look into our overall experience with Bulk as well as what we thought about each specific product.

TL;DR: Overall Thoughts on Bulk

Bulk Supplements Review

Overall, we thought Bulk’s products were extremely pure, incredibly affordable, and highly effective. We tested 4 different products from their protein powder, pre-workout, sweetener, and antioxidant supplement categories.

Each of the 4 products contained an ample amount of servings, had either a neutral or slightly sweet taste, and was successful in terms of living up to its intended role.

The only drawback to using Bulk’s products was that most required a scale for accurate measurement and none of the products contained a scoop or serving tool to assist with measuring out individual servings.

We tested the following 4 products from Bulk Supplements:

  • Pea Protein Isolate
  • Beet Root Powder
  • Stevia Extract
  • Acerola Extract

Bulk Supplements NAC

Best NAC Supplements

Bulk Supplements offers the best NAC capsules available. It provides customers with the option to select from standard gelatin capsules or vegetarian-friendly capsules and there is also a powder version available as well.

This product contains pure N-Acetyl L-Cysteine that is free of additional ingredients or additives of any kind. Customers can order either 100 or 300 capsules of NAC or may choose to purchase it in powder form of varying quantities as well.

It is recommended for adults to take 1-3 servings of 600mg daily, depending on their health needs.

Pros

  • Capsule or powder form
  • Gelatin or vegetarian capsules
  • 100% pure NAC

Cons

  • Vegetarian capsules sell out often and may have limited availability

Pea Protein Isolate

We decided to try out Pea Protein Isolate from Bulk’s extensive protein powder selection. This product was a great alternative to standard, animal-sourced protein powder and we highly recommend it to vegans, vegetarians, or those who wish to try out non-animal protein.

Bulk Supplements Review

Overall, this product was one of the best pea protein powders we’ve tried in terms of overall quality and purity, however, it was somewhat chalky in texture and slightly bland.

This product is perfect for those who are searching for a clean, plant-based protein source but some people may prefer a flavored product or one that comes with a scooper for measuring out servings.

Our favorite way to use this product was to mix one serving of Pea Protein Isolate with 8 oz of all-natural, unsweetened almond milk, and 1 serving of Stevia post-training.

Pea Protein Isolate was relatively inexpensive for being such a high-quality pea protein powder and was priced at $1.75/serving. Competitor brands generally offer pea protein products for closer to $2/serving so we thought this was a solid deal.

In respect to shipping, we received our product within a few days after ordering and it came inside a 250-gram re-sealable pouch that maintained freshness quite well.

Pros

  • Low carb and low fat
  • 24g protein per serving
  • Sold in a wide range of quantities

Cons

  • Unflavored
  • Somewhat chalky tasting
  • Need a scale to measure out servings correctly

Beet Root Powder

Bulk Supplements Review

We selected Beet Root Powder from Bulk’s Pre-Workout supplement category. This product is best known for its role in supporting cardiovascular health, boosting energy, and assisting with athletic endurance and is most widely used by endurance-sport athletes.

Beet Root Extract also contains a high concentration of antioxidants, such as Alpha Lipoic Acid, which helps boost the immune system and promote better energy.

We absolutely loved this product and found it to be extremely helpful in terms of promoting endurance and enhancing recovery. It had a slightly sweet taste and was easy to mix with water, making it ideal to throw in with an intra-workout drink.

We received our product within a few business days after ordering and it came inside a 100-gram re-sealable pouch. This product was extremely affordable at $0.39/serving and was a much higher quality, better value product when compared to all other competitors.

Pros

  • Pure red beetroot
  • No added sugar
  • Easy to mix

Cons

  • Need a scale to measure out servings correctly
  • Some customers may desire a sweeter product
  • May stain surfaces

Stevia Extract

Bulk Supplements Review

We selected Stevia Extract from Bulk’s Sweeteners collection. This product is one of the most popular non-calorie sweeteners in the world today and is considered by most people to be sweeter than sugar.

Overall, we thought Stevia extract was an incredible alternative to sugar and an amazing option for helping to reduce overall sugar intake. The only drawback to using this product was that it was EXTREMELY difficult to measure out individual servings since the recommended serving was 1/32 tsp.

We received this product in a 100-gram re-sealable pouch within a few business days after ordering. This product was by far the most difficult to measure out and absolutely required a scale for correct measurements.

We highly encourage purchasing a food scale if you plan to use this product since there are over 2,500 servings within a single 100-gram pouch!

In respect to price, this product was valued at $0.005/serving making it practically impossible to beat in terms of the overall value. We haven’t seen any competing brands come close to this offer for stevia!

Pros

  • Incredible alternative to sugar
  • Easy-to-mix
  • Tons of servings per purchase

Cons

  • Need a scale to measure out servings correctly
  • No scoop included
  • Some customers may find this product to taste too sweet

Acerola Extract

Bulk Supplements Review

The final product we tested out was Acerola Extract from Bulk’s Antioxidants selection. This product is derived from the Barbados/Acerola Cherry and is best known for its role in supporting the immune system through the use of its carotenoids and bioflavonoids, along with containing a generous portion of Vitamin C.

Overall, we really enjoyed using Acerola Extract and thought that the product had a light but pleasantly sweet taste. It was easy to mix and could be taken throughout the day whenever needed.

Our favorite way to use this product was mixing 1 serving of Acerola Extract along with 1 TBSP of Beet Root Powder and 1 serving of Stevia post-training as a recovery drink.

We received our order within a few business days and it came within a 100-gram re-sealable pouch. Similar to the other products we tried, we highly recommended using an electronic scale to correctly measure out each serving and thought that the product was extremely well-priced at $0.075 per serving.

This product is ideal for those who wish to use a Vitamin C product that is easier to dose, has a lower concentration of Vitamin C, and has less of a diuretic effect when compared to standard Vitamin C products.

Pros

  • Easy-to-mix
  • Tons of servings per purchase
  • Great alternative to standard Vitamin C

Cons

  • Need a scale to measure out servings correctly
  • No scoop included
  • Some customers may prefer taking this type of supplement in capsule form due to the taste

Our Favorite Product

Bulk Supplements Review

Out of the 4 amazing products we tried from Bulk, Beet Root Powder was our absolute favorite! This product boosted our endurance while training and also enhanced our ability to recover significantly. We were able to lift heavier, train longer, and recover much faster than prior to its use.

We definitely recommend athletes from all backgrounds to try Beet Root Powder if they’re looking to significantly improve their performance!

Our Final Thoughts
