The National College Health Improvement Project's (NCHIP) mission is to improve student health at colleges and universities through the application of population health solutions. Building on the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Breakthrough Series learning collaborative model, NCHIP convenes groups of institutions to collectively address student health problems by bringing evidence into practice and measuring outcomes. Its inaugural effort, the Learning Collaborative on High-Risk Drinking, was launched in April 2011.
NCHIP was founded in 2010 by Dartmouth College President Jim Yong Kim at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice (TDI). Composed of six Centers led by foremost experts in their fields, TDI has established a new discipline and educational focus in the evaluative clinical sciences. The institute, founded in 1988, aspires to be the preeminent research and educational institution devoted to the ongoing reform of the U.S. health care system.
